Ishida defends interim WBA title (AP)

Interim champion Nobuhiro Ishida of Japan, right, and challenger Oney Valdez of Colombia exchange punches in the fourth round of their 12-round WBA super welterweight interim title bout at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009. Ishida won the fight with an unanimous decision.

Nobuhiro Ishida of Japan has retained his WBA interim super welterweight title by defeating Oney Valdez of Colombia by unanimous decision. Ishida sent Valdez to the canvas Tuesday with a right to the head in the 10th round in Osaka. The judges scored the bout 117-110, 119-108 and 118-109 in favor of Ishida.
